FDNY Academy (NY trip part2) @hope4warriors

Day 2 of our trip was a BLAST!  All of the Hope for Warriors folks went to the FDNY Fire Academy.  When we first arrived, we got to put on bunker gear and experience (on a VERY beginner level, of course) what it's like to be a firefighter.  We were able to go into a building a fight fires, cut up a car, and rappel off of a building.

Happy Fall!!

The weather is cooling off (faster in some places than others), the leaves are changing (again, NOT everywhere), college football is on (GO DAWGS) on Saturdays, all in all it's just a whole new mindset...

On this first OFFICIAL weekend in fall, what are YOU and/or YOUR family up to?  I hope that at some point this weekend, you will get a chance to get outside.

I wanted to take a quick second to tell you about what I'm doing this weekend... I'm very excited and little nervous.  My huband and I are going to be in New York, NY to participate in the Stephen Sillers Tunnel to Towers Run.

Here's a little bit of the story behind the run
"On September 11th, firefighter Stephen Siller had just gotten off the late shift at Squad 1, Park Slope, Brooklyn.  He was on his way to play golf with his brothers on that bright clear day when his scanner told of the first plane hitting the Twin Towers.  When he heard the news, he called his wife Sally to tell her he would be late because he had to help those in need.  He returned to Squad 1 to get his gear, then took his final heroic steps to the World Trade Center.  When Stephen drove his truck  to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, it was already closed to traffic .  With sixty pounds of gear strapped to his back, he ran through the Tunnel, hoping  to meet up with his own company, Squad 1."
You can click here to read the rest of the article.

Don't worry, I will be taking TONS of pictures of our FIRST trip anywhere WITHOUT kids since... well, since before we had kids!  YAY!!!  Thanks everyone for all of your support and thoughts!  I hope that you ALL have a terrific weekend!!

Ruler Art Display

So, thanks to Pinterest (as usual... click here to follow me), I found a GREAT idea for displaying artwork in the playroom.  I got the idea from Ana White (stay tuned for WAY more stuff from this site... I...LOVE...IT!!!)

So here's what I did (slightly different than Ana White)...

I bought clothes pins.

I disassembled them (WAY easier than reassembling).

I spray painted them.

I reassembled them and glued them onto yard sticks (screws will split regular clothes pins).  The yardsticks were like $0.61... LOVE THAT!

Oh, and... the 'glue' isn't just glue.  It's called GOOP and well, it's one of my new favorite things.  I'm not too sure how it works, but it does!

SO simple, SO cute, SO fun!!!

I NEED a do over...

So yeah... ever have those days when you're like... wait... WHY did I get out of bed?  Yeah... I... FEEL... YOU!!!!  Let me just run through my morning, not because I need sympathy... because I want to share it with you and maybe give you a chuckle (since I am now able to laugh myself... the kids are sleeping... WHEW).

It started off with my daughter (who usually sleeps until 7/730) bee bopped into our bedroom at 545AM announcing that she 'wake-eh up'... YOU HEARD ME RIGHT... FIVE FORTY-FIVE!!!  UGH!  I scooped her up and told her that it was still night night time and she crawled in bed and slept with us (maybe I should get her one of those night lights that tell you when it's morning.  NAH... she really NEVER does this).  No worries, just as she fell asleep little brother chimed in... 630 and we were up and at it.  I picked Wyatt up out of his crib.  As I was carrying him to grab a diaper and change him, I realized that my shirt was now wet.  YUP... his diaper was saturated!  GREAT.
